J & R Trucking Case Settles for $4,250
In February 2014, J & R Trucking agreed to pay $4,250.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $3,188.00 will go to the Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $1,062.00 will go to Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology program.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that J & R Trucking failed to: (1) properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards and; (2) meet the requirements of the Statewide Truck and Bus regulation engine model year compliance schedule for two vehicles in the fleet. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) and the Statewide Truck and Bus regulation. To settle the case, J & R Trucking agreed to the $4,250.00 penalty and to comply with the PSIP, the Statewide Truck and Bus regulation and other ARB programs.
