The Gerson Company Case Settles for $4,500
On June 19, 2012, a case was settled with The Gerson Company for its air freshener products, Clean Scents Spring Day Aroma reed diffuser and Floral Scents Plumeria Aroma reed diffuser. The company paid $4,500 to settle the case for its VOC and date-code violations. These products contained VOC concentrations exceeding the 18 percent by weight VOC limits for “Air Freshener: liquid/pump spray” category specified in title17, California Code of Regulations, section 94509 (a). The products were sold between 2007 and 2008 and resulted in 0.021 tons of excess VOC emissions. Additionally, these products failed to display a date of manufacture or a date-code on the product container as required.
