Geotab USA, Inc. Settles For $317,631
In March 2025, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Geotab USA, Inc. (Geotab), with its principal location in Atlanta, Georgia, for the company’s violation of CARB’s Add-On Parts and Modified Parts Regulation (Aftermarket Parts Regulation), as codified in California Code of Regulations, title 13, sections 2220-2225, and the On-board Diagnostics Regulations, as codified in California Code of Regulations, title 13, sections 1968.2 and 1971.1.
To settle the case, Geotab agreed to the penalty of $3 per violation for a total settlement amount of $317,631. Of the total amount, $158,815 in civil penalty will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality. The remaining $158,815 will fund a Supplemental Environment Project (SEP) entitled, Del Amo Community Air Pollution, Noise, Vibration, and Truck Traffic Study, with the Del Amo Action Committee. This SEP involves installing different monitors to monitor air quality, noise and vibration measurements, and truck traffic within the Del Amo community.
Terms of the settlement include a requirement for Geotab to fix noncompliant devices and harnesses should problems arise. Geotab fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter.
