Franklin Truck Lines, Inc. Settles For $9,000
In July 2024, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Franklin Truck Lines, Inc. (Franklin), with its principal location in Corona, California, for the company’s violation of the Periodic Smoke Inspections of Heavy-Duty Diesel Powered Vehicles (PSIP) Regulation, as codified under California Code of Regulations, title 13, section 2190 et seq.
CARB staff’s investigation discovered and documented that Franklin failed to meet the applicable PSIP requirements by owning or operating multiple heavy-duty diesel vehicles with gross vehicle weights greater than 6,000 pounds in California, and failed to conduct annual smoke opacity inspection of their fleet. (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 13, § 2190 et seq.).
To settle the case, Franklin agreed to the civil penalty of $1,000 per PSIP violation for a total settlement amount of $9,000. The full amount will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality. Terms of the settlement require Franklin to comply with all other CARB regulations going forward.
