While I recognize that dairy is an important part of California's economy, it is also unfortunately a very large part of our methane emissions. Those emissions have impacts that are both local and global, both immediate and long-term. Locally, the communities nearest dairy operations (which are often poor and already disproportionately burdened with health issues) must cope with lung-damaging pollution - a threat that is of greatest risk to children. Globally, methane traps 80 times as much heat as carbon dioxide, making it a potent global warming gas. California is already taking action to make sure that children don't live or go to school near oil wells that emit similar pollution, and countries and communities all over the world are trying to reduce methane pollution to fight global warming. The standards we hold the dairy industry to should be at least as strict as those we impose on fossil fuels. Please be sure to implement regulations that protect our health and our environment for the long term. Thank you, Noah Mercer File Upload (i.e., Attachments): N/A
