Valley Fruit & Produce Co. Case Settles for $18,750
In November 2010, Valley Fruit & Produce Co. agreed to pay $18,750 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $14,062.50 will go to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $4,687.50 will go to Peralta Community College District to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program. This settlement was reached in September 2010. The payments will be made in four installations with the first one received on November 24, 2010. An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Valley Fruit & Produce Co. failed to comply with the Transport Refrigeration Unit (TRU) rule by not upgrading its TRU engines to meet the TRU in-use performance standards. To settle the case, Valley Fruit & Produce Co. agreed to the $18,750 penalty and to comply with the TRU rule.
