Sierra Foothill Construction, C&D Contractors, and Sierra Central Credit Union Case Settles for $8,000
State Law establishes the Asbestos National Emissions Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants as Airborne Toxic Control Measure (Asbestos ATCM) enforceable by Air Resources Board (ARB). The Asbestos ATCM requires the owner(s) or operator(s) of demolition or renovation activities to provide written notification of the intention to demolish or renovate a regulated facility ten (10) working days before work begins.
An investigation by ARB showed that Sierra Foothill Construction Company of Grass Valley, C&D contractor of Nevada City, and Sierra Central Credit Union of Yuba City, failed thoroughly inspect the affected structure for the presence of asbestos, including non-friable asbestos, and failed to notify ARB prior to beginning of a regulated demolition activity in Nevada County. To settle the case, Sierra Foothill Construction Company of Grass Valley, California, agreed to an $8,000.00 penalty.
