San Luis International Freight Services, L.L.C. Settles For $30,000

In June 2019, a case was settled by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for $30,000 with San Luis International Freight Services, L.L.C. (SAN LUIS), located in San Luis, Arizona.  CARB documented violations by SAN LUIS for failure to bring 15 of their on-road diesel fueled vehicles into compliance with the applicable in-use performance standards under the Truck and Bus regulation, pursuant to California Code of Regulations, title 13, section 2025 (13 CCR
§ 2025).  Specifically, SAN LUIS failed to meet Particulate Matter Best Available Control Technology (PM BACT) requirements of the Engine Model Year Compliance Schedule for diesel vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of greater than 26,000 pounds, causing the release of excess emissions as codified in 13 CCR § 2025(g), and qualifying for penalties under Health and Safety Code sections 39650-39675.
The violations were discovered during an audit by Enforcement Division staff at the California Air Resources Board (CARB).  In addition to the $30,000 penalty, SAN LUIS has been mandated to modify their diesel fueled vehicles to be in full compliance within specified timeframes. SAN LUIS was cooperative with submitting documentation during the course of the audit and agreed to become compliant with California’s air quality regulations within the requested timeframe.
