Rivera's Floor Covering Case Settles for $18,000
On September 24, 2018, a Composite Wood case was settled with Rivera’s Floor Covering (Rivera) for selling, supplying or offering for sale a non-compliant laminate flooring that contained medium density fiberboard product in California. The product, Galaxy Westwood: CH3 BRE123 laminate flooring, contained formaldehyde emissions above the limits set for in the Airborne Toxic Control Measure to Reduce Formaldehyde Emissions from Composite Wood Products (ATCM), which has been in effect since January 1, 2009. In addition, Rivera is in violation for not taking reasonable and prudent precautions, including the purchase of flooring product for sale in California that was not labeled in accordance with the ATCM requirements. Rivera agreed to pay $18,000.00 to settle this case.
