Redwood Debris Box Service, Inc. Settles for $39,250
In January 2013, Redwood Debris Box Service Inc. (RDBS), based in Burlingame, agreed to pay $39,250.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $29,437.50 will go to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $9,812.50will go to Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that RDBS failed to comply with the Solid Waste Collection Vehicle (SWCV) rule by neglecting to install legally required emission reduction devices by applicable compliance dates. Further, RDBS failed to properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards. ARB documented violations as they related to the SWCV regulation and Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP). To settle the case, RDBS agreed to the $39,250.00penalty and to comply with the SWCV and PSIP programs.
