DMV Registration Notice with CARB Non-Compliant Vehicle Warning

You may have accessed this webpage due to a registration notice from DMV. An example is shown below. CARB is actively enforcing legislative mandates that require registration holds due to noncompliance with CARB regulations.

Notice of incomplete renewal for CARB non-compliant vehicle, please visit carb.ca.gov/cleantruck or call 866-634-3735.

Registration holds may be due to not meeting the compliance requirements for the Clean Truck Check program. For information on that program, visit Clean Truck Check Overview.

The registration hold may also have been placed by CARB enforcement based on their authority to place registration holds due to noncompliance with any CARB regulation.

  • CARB enforcement sends a non-compliance notification with instructions on how to contact CARB and address the issue with your vehicle. 


If your DMV registration paperwork states a Clean Truck Check or SB 210/Q212 hold reason, please contact HDIM@arb.ca.gov
If the DMV paperwork states a CARB non-compliant or SB 1/Q208 hold, please contact ARB 8666Diesel or the Hotline at 1-866-634-3735.

If your vehicle's model year is 2010 or older, it is possible that your vehicle does not comply with the Truck and Bus regulation and may be the reason you have a registration hold on your vehicle.
