MVP International, Inc. and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Case Settles for $240,000
On November 2, 2015, a Consumer Products case was settled with MVP Group International, Inc. and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. for manufacturing and selling non-compliant air freshener products as specified in Title 17, CCR, section 94509(a). MVP manufactured these products for Wal-Mart as private labeled products and Wal-Mart sold them between August 2011 and July 2013. These products exceeded the 25% VOC compound content limit for the “Double-Phased Aerosol Air Freshener” category and contributed 4 tons of excess VOC emissions to California’s air. In addition, these products did not display the dates of manufactures as specified in Title 17, CCR, section 94512(b). MVP, the manufacturer in this case is paying the full penalty amount of $240,000 to settle this case, with 25% of the penalty going toward the School Bus SEP program.
