Mariak Industries, Inc. Case Settles for $4,500.00
In November 2013, Mariak Industries Inc. (Mariak) agreed to pay $4,500.00 for violating air quality regulations: $2,250.00 goes to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $750.00 goes to Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology program; and the return of Moyer funds of $1,500.00 goes to the South Coast Air Quality Management District for non-compliance.
An investigation by CARB showed that Mariak failed to comply with the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP). CARB documented violations as they related to the PSIP and their heavy duty diesel on-road vehicles. To settle the case, Mariak Industries Inc. agreed to the $3,000.00 penalties, the $1,500.00 return of Moyer funds, and to comply with the PSIP and other CARB programs. Mariak does not have a history of past violations.
