Keolis Transit America Case Settles for $80,500.00
Yellow Cab/Keolis Transit America agreed to pay $80,500.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations; $66,750.00 will go to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality, and $13,750.00 to the Peralta Community College District for distribution to participating California Council on Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) colleges. This settlement was reached on August 16, 2012.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Yellow Cab/Keolis Transit America failed to properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards under the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP). Yellow Cab also violated the provisions of Health and Safety Code 43008.6 and Vehicle Code 27156 by tampering with the catalytic converter systems in taxi cab vehicles owned and operated at the Pomona maintenance facility. To settle the case, Yellow Cab/Keolis Transit America agreed to pay the stipulated penalty and change its work practices to comply with the PSIP and other pertinent regulations.
