Janeway-Bennett Paint, Inc. Settles For $9,225

In February 2021, the California Air Resources Board and Janeway-Bennett Paint, Inc. of Bakersfield, California, reached a settlement agreement in the amount of $9,225.00. Janeway-Bennett Paint, Inc.sold, supplied, offered for sale, and/or  manufactured for sale in California a multi-purpose solvent and paint thinner containing concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOC) that exceeded the standards specified in California Code of Regulations, title 17 (17 CCR), section 94509(a). The company also sold, supplied, offered for sale, and/or manufactured for use in California a multi-purpose solvent and paint thinner containing concentrations of aromatic compounds greater than one percent by weight as specified in 17 CCR, section 94509(p). The violations resulted in 0.39 tons of excess VOC emissions and 0.02 tons of excess aromatic compound emissions.  Additionally, the products did not have a date of manufacture, as required in 17 CCR, section 94512(b). To come into compliance, Janeway-Bennett Paint, Inc. no longer sells these products.
