Interstate Grading and Pavement Case Settles for $6,000
In May 2014, Interstate Grading and Paving, Inc. paid $6,000.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $4,500 .00 went to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $1,500.00 went to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program .
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Interstate Grading and Paving, Inc. failed to bring their heavy-duty diesel vehicles in compliance with the applicable in-use performance standards and failed to properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards . ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) and the Statewide Truck and Bus (SWTB) regulation. To settle the case, Interstate Grading and Paving, Inc. agreed to the $6,000.00 penalty and to comply with the PSIP, SWTB and other ARB programs.
