Hapag-Lloyd AG Settles Ocean-Going Vessels Fuels Regulation Violation for $24,750
On March 10, 2020, Hapag-Lloyd AG, of Hamburg, Germany, reached a settlement with the California Air Resources Board (CARB), agreeing to pay penalties of $24,750.00 for violating the Ocean-Going Vessels Fuels Regulation. The violations were discovered during a routine inspection by CARB staff. CARB investigation showed that the Hapag‑Lloyd AG vessel, Yantian Express, failed to operate on compliant fuel upon entry into Regulated California Waters in 2019. CARB alleged three days and three hours of violations for a penalty of $7,500 per day, and $750 per hour. Hapag-Lloyd AG took prompt action after being notified of these violations and, under CARB’s supervision, began operating in a compliant fashion under CARB’s regulations.
