Express Transfers, Inc. Case Settles for $20,700
In May 2015, Express Transfers, Inc. agreed to pay $20,700.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $15,525.00 will go to the Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $5,175.00 will go to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Express Transfers, Inc. failed to properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards as required by the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) and failed to have 60% of their fleet meet the PM BACT requirements by January 1, 2013 and 90% by January 1, 2014 as required by the Statewide Truck & Bus Regulation (STB). ARB documented violations as they related to PSIP and STB. To settle the case, Express Transfers, Inc. agreed to the $20,700.00 penalty and to comply with PSIP, STB and other ARB programs.
