EMADCO Disposal Service, Inc. Case Settles for $36,000
EMADCO Disposal Service, Inc. provides solid waste collection services in Madera County. In July 2012, EMADCO Disposal Service, Inc. agreed to pay $36,000 in penalties; $27,000 to the California Air Pollution Control Fund and $9,000 to the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District for the school bus retrofit Supplemental Environmental Project. An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that EMADCO Disposal Service, Inc. failed to comply with the solid waste collection vehicle rule by neglecting to install legally required emission-reduction devices by applicable compliance dates. EMADCO Disposal Service, Inc. also failed to properly self-inspect their diesel vehicles to assure that vehicles met state smoke emission standards. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) and Solid Waste Collection Vehicle Program (SWCV). To settle the case, EMADCO Disposal Service, Inc. agreed to the $36,000 penalty and to comply with the PSIP and SWCV programs in addition to other ARB programs.
