BP West Coast Products LLC Settles for $624,000
BP West Coast Products LLC (BP), of Chicago, Illinois, failed to accurately report the amount of carbon dioxide emissions from their calciner facility in Wilmington for reporting periods 2011 and 2012 (California Code of Regulations, title 17, § 95103). The underreporting of emissions was due to a calculation error based on data from the continuous emission monitoring system. The reports remained inaccurate for 416 days. The error was discovered and disclosed in 2017 to the California Air Resources Board (CARB). BP thereafter fully cooperated with CARB’s investigation. To resolve the matter, in February 2020, BP agreed to pay a penalty of $624,000, of which, $312,000 will fund a supplemental environmental project.
