El Monte Wholesale Meat, Incorporated Case Settles for $13,500
El Monte Wholesale Meat, Inc. will pay $13,500.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $10,125.00 will go to the Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $3,375.00 went to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program. This settlement was reached in June 2015.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that El Monte Wholesale Meat, Inc. (1) failed to comply with the Truck and Bus (T&B) regulation by neglecting to install legally required emission reduction devices by applicable compliance dates and not reporting all vehicles correctly; (2) failed to comply with the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) by not properly self-inspecting their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards. The ARB documented violations as they related to the PSIP, and the STB regulation. To settle the case, El Monte Wholesale Meat, Inc. agreed to the $13,500.00 penalty and to comply with the PSIP and T&B regulation and all applicable ARB programs.
