Detroit Diesel Corp. Settlement
In February of 2020, Detroit Diesel Corporation (Detroit Diesel), headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, settled its case with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) involving Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF). Detroit Diesel was offering for sale and selling remanufactured DPFs that did not meet the definitions of 13 CCR 2222. Upon further investigation Detroit Diesel informed CARB that it had a proprietary cleaning procedure that would clean DPFs to be functionally identical to a new DPF. CARB takes no position on whether a remanufactured DPF is in fact functionally identical. However, per the settlement, Detroit Diesel has agreed to specified terms and conditions with regard to its proprietary cleaning procedure and handling of tracking.
