Cozart Brothers, Inc. Case Settles for $3,000.00
In September 2013, Cozart Brothers, Inc. agreed to pay $3,000.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $2,250.00 will go to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $750.00 will go to Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology program.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Cozart Brothers, Inc. failed to properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP). Cozart Brothers, Inc. also failed to timely report all required information for one vehicle in the fleet for which the owner elected to utilize the small fleet compliance option for the Statewide Truck and Bus regulation. To settle the case, Cozart Brothers, Inc. agreed to the $3,000.00 penalty and to comply with the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program, Statewide Truck and Bus regulation and other ARB programs.
