Contract Number: 18RD031
Project Status: Completed
Relevant CARB Programs: California State Implementation Plans
Topic Areas: Ozone, Monitoring, Modeling
Research Summary:
Historical ozone-sonde data from Trinidad Head, CA (THD) have shown that baseline concentrations may exceed 50 parts per billion (ppb), and increasing industrialization in Asia may have led to increased baseline ozone (O3) concentrations entering California from the west and northwest. The continuous Ozone-Sonde measurements from THD will help CARB to track the magnitude and temporal variations in baseline ozone concentrations entering California. The data is also critically important for evaluating and improving the boundary conditions generated from the global transport models used in CARB's ozone State Implementation Plan (SIP) modeling.
