Contec, Inc. Settles For $9,000
In July 2024, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Contec, Inc. (Contec), with its principal location in West Columbia, South Carolina, for the company’s violation of the Regulation for Reducing Emissions from Consumer Products (Consumer Products Regulation), as codified in California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 94500 et seq.
An investigation conducted by CARB staff revealed that Contec failed to meet the volatile organic compound (VOC) limit requirements for a nonaerosol disinfectant product (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 17, § 94500 et seq.).
Contec fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter. Terms of the settlement include a requirement for Contec to increase scrutiny of the compliance of their products, and to comply with all other CARB regulations going forward. The total penalty amount of $9,000 will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
