Conopco, Inc. Case Settles for $355,000.00

Unilever purchased Alberto Culver who manufactured and sold Motions Oil Sheen & Conditioning Spray into California. The product made both “Hair Shine” and Hair Styling” Product claims and under the most restrictive limit provision the product did not meet the 6 percent by weight volatile organic compound (VOC) limit for aerosol and pump hair styling products in the Consumer Products Regulation (title 17, California Code of Regulations, section 94509(a)). The case was not the first violation of the regulations for both companies and resulted in 16.9 tons of excess emissions. The case was settled on December 20, 2013.
