Coffman Specialties, Inc. Case Settles for $95,225
Coffman Specialties, Inc. paid $95,225.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $71,419.00 went to the Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $23,806.00 went to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program. This settlement was reached in August 2016.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Coffman Specialties, Inc. failed to: (1) properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards as required by the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP); (2) bring their vehicles into compliance by the deadlines set forth in the Truck and Bus (TB) Regulation; (3) report vehicles utilizing compliance options subject to the TB Regulation; and (4) include the Disclosure of Regulation Applicability on a bill of sale as required by the TB Regulation. ARB documented violations as they related to PSIP and TB Regulation. To settle the case, Coffman Specialties, Inc. agreed to the $95,225.00 penalty and to comply with PSIP, TB Regulation and other ARB programs.
