Champion Chemical Company Case Settles for $33,000
On October 3, 2016, a case was settled with Champion Chemical Company for selling/manufacturing “Sokoff Removes Baked-On Grease & Carbon” subject to the VOC limit for the Oven or Grill Cleaner category, title 17, California Code of Regulations, section 94509(a). The product contained concentrations of VOC’s exceeding the 4 percent by weight VOC limit for the category. Excess VOC emissions in this case was approximately 0.12 tons. In addition the product contained methylene chloride, a prohibited ingredient (1.48 tons), and there was a date code violation. The company paid $33,000.00 to settle the case.
