BP Lubricants, USA Company Case Settles for $40,000
On August 4, 2010, a case was settled with the BP Lubricants, USA Company for sales of their Castrol Metal Parts Cleaner aerosol product as an “engine degreaser.” The product was sold in retail outlets specializing in motorsports as an engine degreaser, but did not meet the standard for that product category of 35 percent by weight volatile organic compound limit effective December 31, 2004, Title 17, of the Consumer Products Regulation. The product had already been discontinued from production for other reasons, but BP Lubricants, USA made a payment of $40,000 to settle the case.
