Bhandal Brothers Trucking, Inc. Case Settles for $73,025
In January 2014, Bhandal Brothers Trucking, Inc. agreed to pay $73,025.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $54,769.00 will go to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $18,256.00 will go to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Bhandal Brothers Trucking, Inc., failed to bring several transport refrigeration units (TRUs) in compliance with the applicable in-use performance standards; failed to properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards; failed to provide evidence that Emission Control Labels (ECLs) are attached to the engines of heavy-duty diesel vehicles in their fleet and failed to report to ARB all of the applicable diesel vehicles in their fleet. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP), the ECL program, the Truck and Bus regulation and the TRU Air Toxic Control Measure regulation. To settle the case, Bhandal Brothers Trucking, Inc. agreed to the $73,025.00 penalty and to comply with the PSIP, ECL, TRU, Truck and Bus, and other ARB programs.
