Avery Weigh-Tronix, LLC Case Settles for $52,500
In December 2013, Avery Weigh-Tronix, LLC paid $52,500.00 for violating air quality regulations: $39,375.00 was paid to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $13,125.00 was paid to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Avery Weigh-Tronix, LLC failed to properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards; and also failed to meet PM BACT requirements for 1996 through 1999 engine model years by January 1, 2012; and also failed to meet PM BACT requirements for 2000 through 2004 engine model years by January 1, 2013. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP), and the Truck & Bus Regulation. To settle the case, Avery Weigh-Tronix, LLC agreed to the $52,500.00 penalty and to comply with the PSIP, Truck & Bus, and other ARB programs.
