AutoZone Settlement
AutoZone Case Settles for $60,000
Between January 2008 and February 2011, AutoZone was found selling two different non-compliant automotive windshield washer fluid products in California. Upon further investigation, AutoZone self-disclosed that two additional non-compliant automotive windshield washer fluid products were sold in California. The Consumer Products Regulation specifies different VOC limits for automotive windshield wiper fluid in California, depending on the climate of the region. The limit is 25 percent VOC by weight for mountainous areas that are subject to low freezing temperatures, and one percent VOC for everywhere else in the state. The amount of excess VOC emissions associated with the violations was 3.94 tons. The settlement agreement was executed on July 16, 2012 and AutoZone paid $60,000 to settle the case.
