AutoZone, Inc. Settlement
AutoZone, Inc. Case Settles for $2,039.81
In August 2012, the Air Resources Board (ARB) reached a settlement with AutoZone, Inc. that included $2,039.81 in penalties to be paid in to the California Air Pollution Control Fund for selling and offering for sale catalytic converter delete pipes (delete pipes). ARB’s investigation of AutoZone showed violations of the California Vehicle Code sections 27156 and California Health and Safety Code section 43644(a). ARB visited AutoZone’s website and noticed that they were advertising delete pipes. ARB purchased two of these delete pipes, which verified they could be sold in to California. ARB requested information regarding all sales of the converter delete pipes that were made to California residents. AutoZone provided the requested documents regarding the sale of the delete pipes and fully cooperated with ARB’s investigation and removed the delete pipes from its website.
