$298,318 in Fines Paid by Amrep
Amrep finally completed their self-audit process started after Enforcement Division staff found a second product in violation during inspections in 2003 and 2004. Amrep reported in March that they had found additional violations of California’s Consumer Products Regulations resulting from the sale of noncomplying automotive brake cleaners, general purpose degreasers, general purpose cleaners, spot removers, carpet and upholstery cleaners, silicone multipurpose lubricants, multipurpose lubricants, rubber and vinyl protectants, crawling bug insecticides, automotive windshield washer fluids, liquid air fresheners, engine degreasers, and floor wax strippers. A settlement was prepared by ARB’s Office of Legal Affairs who worked with Amrep to resolve all of the self reported violations following a consistent settlement strategy and format. This final settlement agreement and the additional payment of $298,318 are for the newly reported violations only, however, the combined total for all of the settlements with the company to date is $734,000. The company feels that they are now in full compliance with the Consumer Products Regulation in California. Violations that are found in the future will not be covered under the agreement.
