Akzo Nobel Paints Company Case Settles for $3,900
On August 5, 2010, a case was settled with Akzo Nobel Paints Company following their voluntary disclosure that they sold a non-compliant product called Liquid Nails Asphalt Repair. The product was sold in large retail outlets for use in asphalt repairs, but did not meet the standard for the “sealant” product category of 4 percent by weight volatile organic compounds. This limit became effective on December 31, 2002, in Title 17 of the Consumer Products Regulation. Akzo Nobel Paints LLC voluntarily recalled their Asphalt Repair product from California sales and made a reduced penalty payment of $3,900 to settle the case.
