Commercial and government fleets: California’s zero-emissions fleet regulations may affect you
California has withdrawn its request for a waiver and authorization for the addition of the Advanced Clean Fleets (ACF) Regulation to its emissions control program. At this time, CARB is evaluating next steps. CARB is not enforcing the existing portions of the ACF Regulation that require a federal waiver or authorization, such as the portions of the ACF Regulation that apply to high priority and drayage fleets. However, not all elements of the ACF Regulation require a federal waiver or authorization. The state and local government fleets portion of the ACF Regulation remains unaffected. Because CARB is committed to reducing air pollution to protect public health, we encourage affected industries to continue reducing their emissions and we look forward to continued partnership in these efforts.
Many commercial and government fleets with vans, buses, and trucks, from ¾-ton thru semis, are subject to Advanced Clean Fleets. Read the quick overview below, then continue to the official Advanced Clean Fleets program page.
Affected fleets
- Fleets with 50 or more vehicles or $50 million or more in gross revenue
- Fleets owned by federal, state or local agencies
- Drayage trucks visiting seaports and railyards
- Businesses that hire, direct, or operate these vehicles for others
Changes to your fleet should be reported in TRUCRS.
Flexibility through exemptions and extensions may be available.
