Advance Stores Company, Incorporated Settles For $3,750
In December 2025, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Advance Stores Company, Incorporated (Advance) with its principal location in Raleigh, North Carolina, for the violation of the Regulation for Reducing Emissions from Consumer Products (Consumer Products Regulation), as codified in the California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 94507 et seq.
A CARB staff investigation revealed that Advance sold, supplied, or offered for sale in the State of California brake cleaners that contained a prohibited toxic compound, perchloroethylene, which has been prohibited since June 30, 2001. (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 17, § 93111(d)((1).) To settle the case, Advance agreed to the penalty of $3,750 for the violation. The amount will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
Advance cooperated fully with CARB to resolve this matter. To come into compliance, Advance no longer offers the product for sale in California.
