Summary
Would have established the position of the State Geographic Information Officer (GIO) within the Government Operations Agency. The bill would have tasked the State GIO with analyzing the geospatial data collected statewide to identify gaps or areas of duplication, coordinating the State’s geographic information projects, and adopting standards for data collection and sharing, among other duties. The bill would also have established the California Geographic Information System (GIS) Advisory Council composed of State GIS users to advise the State GIO on issues of policy and implementation, including recommending rules and policies involving defining GIS standards and responsibilities.
