California Air Resources Board

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) certifies abrasives for permissible dry blasting outside of a permanent building in accordance with California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 92530.  Below is a list of CARB’s currently certified abrasives. Unless otherwise noted, the cut-point for fineness (cpff) is #70 sieve. 

Only abrasives that are listed below are currently certified. If a manufacturer or vendor sells an abrasive in multiple grit sizes (i.e. 16, 20, and/or 30) only the grit sizes listed below are certified. If no grit sizes are listed below, only the single unsized abrasive is certified.  Additionally, only the abrasives produced at the listed plants are certified.  Abrasives produced by the manufacturers or vendors at locations not listed below are not certified. An abrasive that is sold by its manufacturer or vendor during the period the abrasive is certified is certified for use until the abrasive is gone. The regulations do not require that the abrasive be used only during the period it is certified.

The list contains information submitted to CARB from manufacturers. CARB staff has reviewed this information and believes it to be accurate, but does not assume any responsibility for any errors or inaccuracies that may exist herein. CARB staff may revise the information contained in this document at any time.
