Eel River Disposal Company, Inc. Case Settles for $9,600
Eel River Disposal Company, Inc. (ERD) is a commercial solid waste hauler based in Humboldt County. In April 2010, agreed to pay $9,600 in penalties; $7,200 to the California Air Pollution Control Fund and $2,400 to the Peralta Community College District for violating air quality regulations. An investigation by the ARB showed that ERD failed to properly self-inspect their diesel vehicles to assure that vehicles met state smoke emission standards. ERD also failed to comply with the solid waste collection vehicle rule by neglecting to install legally required emission-reduction devices by applicable compliance dates. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP and Solid Waste Collection Vehicle Program (SWCV). To settle the case ERD agreed to the $9,600 penalty and to comply with the PSIP and SWCV program in addition to other ARB programs.
