Union City Transit Case Settles for $1,500
In October 2011, Union City Transit agreed to pay $1,500.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $1,125.00 will go to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $375.00 will go to Peralta Community College District to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program. An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Union City Transit failed to properly retrofit four of their Urban Bus and Transit Fleet Vehicles to assure the trucks and buses met state smoke emissions standards. ARB documented violations as they related to the Urban Bus and Transit Fleet Vehicle Programs. To settle the case, Union City Transit agreed to the $1,500.00 penalty and to comply with the various ARB programs.
