On January 20, 2026, CARB received a petition for rulemaking to identify β-myrcene and cannabis emissions as toxic air contaminants (TAC), and to regulate commercial cannabis and hemp cultivation operations as stationary sources subject to New Source Review and Emissions Standards. On February 13, 2026, Petitioners agreed to extend the due date for CARB's response to the petition to May 20, 2026. The petition consideration and CARB's response are provided below:
