Luxottica Retail North America Inc. Case Settles for $20,000
On March 4, 2015, a Consumer Products case was settled with Luxottica Retail North America Inc. for selling and/or supplying several non-compliant General Purpose Cleaner wipe products in California, as specified in Title 17, CCR, section 94509(a). Although the products were labeled to clean optical materials found in eyeglasses, they were labeled with additional claims that made them subject to the General Purpose Cleaner VOC limit of 0.5% by weight. By exceeding their applicable VOC compound content limits, these products contributed 1.6 tons of excess VOC emissions to California’s air. Luxottica paid $20,000 to settle this case, with an additional $5,500 penalty suspended pending a reformulation attempt by the company to make wipe product that complies with the VOC limit for glass cleaners.
