2025 Area Designations for State Ambient Air Quality Standards: On Oct 1 via remote access, CARB will hold a public webinar on proposed updates to the area designations for State ambient air quality standards. During the webinar, staff will present background information on the State standards, the designation process, and proposed amendments to the area designations. These amendments reflect updates based on the annual review of the latest complete monitoring data (2022 to 2024). More information can be found on the webinar webpage.
HI-FIVE: Health Impacts of Filtration Improvements in Elementary Schools: On Oct 2 via remote access, CARB will host a research seminar on the “HIFIVE” project (Health Impacts of Filtration ImproVements in Elementary Schools), a study conducted in partnership between UC Irvine investigators and the Los Angeles Unified School District. The goal of this project was to assess the health impacts of air filtration interventions in vulnerable AB 617 elementary schools. The study placed portable air filtration units in classrooms, and PM 2.5 sensors both indoors and outdoors. The investigators examined the health impacts of improved air filtration for students in Southern California elementary schools in Carson, Torrance, Harbor City, and Lomita. Parents and teachers helped to monitor health impacts to students through the use of questionnaires. More information can be found on the seminar’s webpage.
CalHealthMap Research Seminar: On Oct 3 via remote access, CARB will host a research seminar on CalHealthMap: Improved Assessment and Tracking of Health Impacts for California Communities Most Burdened by Pollution. Researchers from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) partnered with the Public Health Institute’s Health Tracking California Program, Comite Civico del Valle (CCV), and Oregon State University (OSU) to develop CalHealthMap. This mapping tool is an online resource available publicly to help visualize, track, and communicate, for all California neighborhoods, information on health conditions that are sensitive to changes in air quality. More information can be found on the seminar’s webpage.
