Johnson Matthey, Inc. Case Settles for $50,000
Johnson Matthey, Inc. will pay $50,000.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $37,500.00 went to the Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $12,500.00 went to the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District to fund the School Bus and Diesel Emission Reduction Supplemental Environmental Project. This settlement was reached in October 2015.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Johnson Matthey, Inc. failed to follow the labeling requirements set forth in California Code of Regulations, title 13, section 2706(j) by providing and installing improper labels on the Verified Diesel Emission Control Strategies (VDECS) it sold between 2004 and 2008. ARB documented violations as they related to the VDECS program. To settle the case, Johnson Matthey, Inc. agreed to the $50,000.00 penalty and to comply with VDECS and other ARB programs. Johnson Matthey, Inc. also agreed to a relabeling program to address the issues of all the mislabeled VDECS.
