Midwest Can Company Case Settles for $400,000

Midwest Can Company, located in Franklin Park, Illinois, is a manufacturer of portable fuel containers and their spouts (gas cans).  Staff from ARB’s Monitoring and Laboratory Division performed diurnal testing on Midwest’s gas can products and found that they failed to meet performance standards required under title 13, California Code of Regulations, section 2467. 

Midwest fully cooperated with ARB to correct the manufacturing defect and return to providing compliant products.  The case was settled in March 2016 with Midwest agreeing to pay $300,000.00 to the California Air Pollution Control Fund and $100,000.00 to the School Bus and Diesel Emission Reduction Supplemental Environmental Project.
