Mather Bros., Inc. Case Settles for $25,000
Mather Bros. Inc. will pay $25,000.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $18,750.00 will go to the Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $6,250.00 will go to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology program. This settlement was reached in June 2016.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Mather Bros. Inc. failed to (1) properly self-inspect its diesel trucks, as required by Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP), (2) properly affix an Emission Control Label (ECL) on an engine in their vehicle fleet, (3) bring the Transport Refrigeration Units (TRU) it operates in California into compliance with the in-use performance standards, (4) register their TRU in ARB’s Equipment Registration system, (5) comply with the Particulate Matter Best Available Control Technology requirements required by the Truck and Bus (TB) regulation, and (6) comply with reporting requirements of TB regulation. ARB documented violations as they relate to PSIP, the TRU Airborne Toxic Control Measure, ECL Program and TB Regulation. To settle the case, Mather Bros. Inc. agreed to the $25,000.00 penalty and to comply with PSIP, TRU, TB, ECL and other ARB programs.
