Paula Stigler Granados, Ph.D.

Paula Stigler Granados is an Associate Professor and Division Head of Environmental Health within San Diego State University’s School of Public Health. Dr. Stigler Granados is also a Board Member of the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District, where she holds the Science Advisor seat.
As an environmental and global health researcher, Dr. Stigler Granados focuses on transboundary air pollution, climate science, and environmental health disparities in communities disproportionately burdened by pollution. She leads the Healthy Air Healthy Water survey, the only longitudinal study tracking health outcomes among residents of the Tijuana River Valley in the San Diego region. Her research has directly informed state policy, including testimony before the California Senate Environmental Quality Committee and contributions to legislation on air quality standards.
Prior to SDSU, Dr. Stigler Granados was an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Public Health and an Associate Professor at Texas State University’s School of Health Administration. She co-chaired the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s San Diego-Tijuana Air Quality Taskforce for several years and has worked closely with tribal communities on air quality monitoring and environmental health. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Global Health from San Diego State University and the University of California, San Diego; a Master of Science in Environmental Health Sciences from San Diego State University; and a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin.
