Golden State Supply LLC Case Settles for $24,461
Golden State Supply LLC (GSS), an automotive parts retailer (also known as Carquest) based in Roanoke, Virginia, entered into a mutual settlement with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in January 2019. The company self-disclosed to CARB that it had sold 265 uncertified small cans of automotive refrigerant in California between 2014 and 2016. In addition, GSS submitted incorrect recycling reports for 2014 and 2015, which contributed to the sales of these cans.
This is the first settlement of this particular CARB refrigerant program. The total civil penalty of $24,461 accounts for the incorrect reporting, as well as the emission of 188 pounds of excess greenhouse gas emissions from the uncertified cans. GSS was fully cooperative throughout CARB’s investigation and is now in compliance with the applicable refrigerant regulations.
