Pleasurecraft Marine Engine CO., doing business as PCM, Settles For $45,000
In November 2023, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Pleasurecraft Marine Engine CO., doing business as PCM (PCM), with its principal location in Little Mountain, South Carolina, for the company’s violation of the Spark-Ignition Marine Engine (SIME) Regulation, as specified in the California Code of Regulations, title 13, sections 2440-2447.
During an investigation conducted by CARB Enforcement staff of PCM regarding certification compliance with CARB issued Executive Orders, it was instead found that PCM failed to submit annual production reports to CARB for model years 2017-2019 within 90 days after each year-end as required. CARB subsequently documented the violations as reporting violations as they related to the SIME Regulation.
Of the total settlement, the civil penalty amount of $22,500 will be deposited into CARB's Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality. The remaining amount of $22,500 will fund a Supplemental Environmental Project (SEP) with Tree Fresno, entitled Fresno TREES Phase IV-Malaga Recreation Park. This SEP provides the San Joaquin Valley with water-wise trees and increased green space with an air quality monitoring partnership with Sonoma Technology, Inc.
PCM cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter and has put together a compliance plan to ensure that the company meets all CARB’s air quality regulatory standards and requirements going forward.
